Sumter County is home to two public school districts, serving about 18,000 students, and nearly a dozen private schools, academies and kindergartens, serving about 2,000 students. Sumter County’s two public school districts will be consolidated into one unified school district by 2011.
Additionally, Sumter County is home to seven private schools, both faith-based and secular, with a combined enrollment of nearly 2,000.
Sumter County takes education seriously, and recently completed a $6 million renovation of the Sumter County Public Library System including new facilities, new equipment and new materials.
