Sumter Smarter Growth Initiative

Support and Influence from the Private Sector

As a public-private partnership, the Sumter Development Board is funded by the City of Sumter, Sumter County and the Sumter Smarter Growth Initiative (SSGI). We understand that economic development is no longer solely a function of government. To support the local efforts, more than 60 business leaders all across Sumter County came together to find new ways to stay competitive and foster the creation of a better future for this community and its people.

SSGI investors have pledged more than $1.5 million for economic development in Sumter County over a 5-year period. To date, the SSGI has provided the Sumter Development Board with more than $350,000 to augment the Board's efforts at recruiting industry, marketing the Sumter Community and developing Sumter County's industrial development products.
